Experience
Fesios
Nov, 2025 – Apr, 2026 | Vienna, Austria
Simulation Engineer
At Fesios, I bridged the gap between metallurgy and digitalization by modeling complex liquid steel logistics and material flow. Using Discrete Event Simulation (DES), I created high-fidelity digital twins to identify bottlenecks and validate capital investments, directly maximizing plant throughput and operational efficiency
Tata Steel Nederland
Nov, 2022 – Oct, 2025 | IJmuiden, Netherlands
Doctoral Researcher, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (MSCA)
At Tata Steel, I led applied research in collaboration with TU Wien to enhance the sustainability of steelmaking, within the framework of the MSCA Doctoral Network CESAREF. My work focused on integrating mathematical programming, machine learning, and real-time data systems to support intelligent decision-making in complex industrial processes.
• Developed novel MILP scheduling models using Pyomo and solved with Gurobi, integrating non-linear predictive components to optimize steelmaking energy and material efficiency;
• Built a machine learning model in Python using data from Databricks to estimate refractory wear, enabling predictive integration into optimization workflows.
• Developed a real-time decision-support system by connecting live process data from Databricks via a FastAPI backend, and visualizing results through a Dash web interface.
• Authored peer-reviewed publications, presented at international conferences, and supervised a master’s thesis.
Anglo American
Jul, 2021 – Nov, 2022 | Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Data Scientist
At Anglo American, I worked as a Data Scientist responsible for developing complex analytics studies aimed at improving the operational performance of Brazil’s Iron Ore and Nickel business units. My achievements involved:
• Led data science projects for Minas-Rio and Nickel units from concept to deployment, using Python and Dataiku to build and operationalize data-driven solutions. Supported application architecture design within Azure, managing internal and external development teams to ensure successful deployment.
• Developed a machine learning model to predict iron ore moisture levels before shipment, enabling proactive decision-making. Led the end-to-end development of a digital product in Azure that prevented shipment delays and generated over R$500,000 in cost savings.\
• Developed a forecasting model for mining and processing performance and integrated it into production planning routines, enhancing operational predictability and process stability.\
• Supported Anglo American’s digital transformation strategy by mentoring colleagues and delivering internal training sessions on data science tools and best practices.
Hexagon Mining
Dec, 2019 – Jul, 2021 | Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Senior Product Analyist
At Hexagon Mining, I contributed to the development of a modular software platform for real-time mining operations, combining web technologies and 3D visualization. My achievements included:
• Supported the Asset Health product team, an edge computing platform developed in C++ focused on collecting, storing and providing predictive maintenance tools for mining equipment.
• Designed and implemented core features of the Shell Application Platform, a modular TypeScript and React-based system using micro front-end architecture.
• Led migration of the mine dispatch system UI to a new high-performance architecture with ThreeJS for 3D navigation and visualization.
• Contributed to all stages of the software development lifecycle, from architecture design to testing and deployment across global teams (Brazil, USA, Australia).
Primetals Tehcnologies
OCt, 2016 – Dec, 2019 | Belo Horizonte, Brazil
Systems and Solutions Engineer
At Primetals, I worked in the development of industrial IT and Data Analytics solutions for the metals industry. As a Systems and Solutions engineer, my main achievements were:
• Led the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) monitoring center, coordinating projects with clients in Brazil and the USA. Oversaw historical data analysis, model reconciliation, and cross-site deployment, developing leadership and international collaboration skills.
• Development of process optimization models based on machine learning techniques using Python, targeting to increase the production yield and process stability. Designed and implemented data pipelines and models for real-time execution. System was successfully commissioned in two furnaces in Brazil and one in the USA.
• Developed a real-time electric process simulation system for multiple steelmaking plants, focused on the integration with real-time information from MES and automation systems (OPC DA/UA). Responsible for the on-site commissioning and training stakeholders from plants in Brazil, Mexico and USA.\
• Developed and commissioned Level 2 system for EOF furnace. Responsible for successfully integrating metallurgical models and external process interfaces ensuring that the system is able to run without any downtime and with high accuracy. The system helped to stabilize the process and achieve remarkable reductions in the consumption of coke, slag formers and oxygen.
• Refactored and maintained a scrap processing management system, troubleshooting optimization models and reports, gaining expertise in system optimization, debugging, and process analysis.
• Development of applications using C#, ASP.NET, Entity Framework and WPF, participating in all steps of the software development lifecycle.
